Teaching Kids Hymns
So for a while I have wanted to teach my kids hymns. The service we go to at church is wonderful and they are getting plenty of contemporary praise music there and on the radio, but something about the hymns make me happy. Maybe it is all the wonderful theology in them or maybe it just reminds me of our old church, but I love them.
I have Joni Eareckson Tada's Hymns for a Kid's Heart (we only have the first book, but plan to get the rest soon!) which we LOVE but I was wondering if there were other resources out there? Do you teach your kids hymns? If so, how?

I LOVE hymns. I think it probably has something to do with my own childhood growing up singing them. Our church has contemporary services but one service that blends the old hymns in as well. That's the one I attend. Yep, 24 year old me and all of the senior citizens :-) I think hymns show the rich heritage of our faith and many have wonderful stories behind them.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear more about how this goes for you! I LOVE hymns and we don't sing them at our church very often.
ReplyDeleteIs it a book or cd of hymns? I also would love to teach my kiddos hymns.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how great this would be for the kids but the Indelible Grace Project breathes new life into some amazing old hymns. Look it up on Amazon or just google Indelible Grace...beautiful stuff! Good stuff for the car and I am sure the kids at the very least wouldn't mind it... :)
ReplyDeleteThere is another volume of the Hymns for a Kids Heart (blue)...same, just different hymns.
ReplyDeleteWe are also loving Seeds Family Worship. Not hymns, but scripture (and reference). They have them all online

and when you buy the CDs, you get a second copy for free, so my sister and I just split the cost of all of them. Love hearing even Ellie sing the Bible.
BSF :)
